For our 9th anniversary: our first solar watch

Our team spent two years developing it, and now the time has come. Just in time for our 9th anniversary, we are introducing the Naos Solar, the very first Sternglas watch powered directly by light, a long-standing wish from our community.

Beneath the dial is a solar panel that converts sunlight and artificial light into energy. Once fully charged, the watch runs for up to four months with no battery changes needed. Wear it regularly and you can rely on it to keep running consistently.

The Naos Solar comes in two versions: classic with a white dial, slim black hands and fine turquoise Luminova accents, or dark green with refined PVD gold plating and a softly graduated dial, a first in the Sternglas collection.

Worry-free thanks to sapphire crystal

We only use sapphire crystal for our timepieces. This type of watch glass is usually found in the luxury watch market.

For a perfect view of the dial, we apply a double anti-reflective coating to the sapphire crystal.

What exactly is sapphire crystal?

Sapphire is the third hardest transparent material in the world - after diamond and moissanite.

Curved sapphire crystal not only looks good, it makes the durable watch crystal even more resistant.

This makes it virtually impossible for your sapphire crystal watch to get scratched in everyday life.

How the Naos Solar Works

Beneath the dial of the Naos Solar lies a fine solar panel that converts sunlight and artificial light into energy. This energy is stored in a rechargeable cell that replaces the conventional battery. When fully charged, the watch runs for up to four months, even when kept in the dark.

The stored energy powers the precise Epson AS32 solar quartz movement, whose quartz resonator ensures accurate, steady motion of the hands. The Naos Solar combines the precision of traditional watchmaking with the independence of modern solar technology.

A practical detail: if the second hand moves in two-second intervals, the energy cell is running low. Simply place the watch in bright light for about ten minutes, and it will recharge and resume normal operation – reliable, maintenance-free, and always ready to wear.

Timeless Bauhaus design meets solar technology

The 38 millimeter case features double-domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both sides and is water-resistant to 5 ATM.

On the back, an engraved Bauhaus-inspired motif symbolizes the principle of the solar watch with stylized sun rays transferring their power to the movement.

Epson AS32 Solar Quartz Movement

Beneath the dial, the reliable Epson AS32 solar quartz movement converts light into energy. A fine solar panel absorbs sunlight and artificial light, transforming it into electrical power that is stored in a long-lasting rechargeable cell.

When fully charged, the Naos Solar runs for up to four months without needing a battery replacement. If the energy level becomes low, the second hand moves in two-second intervals, indicating that the watch needs more light. After a short time in bright light, it returns to its regular rhythm.

With a precision of –20 to +20 seconds per month, the Epson AS32 embodies accuracy, sustainability, and modern watchmaking – perfectly in line with the clear and timeless design of the Naos.

Interchangeable Strap for Any occasion

For perfect wearing comfort, three strap options are available. The robust bridle leather from England, offered in black or dark brown, is among the finest leathers in the world. Originally developed for equestrian gear, it is exceptionally durable, gains a rich sheen through waxing and oiling, and becomes even more beautiful over time.
The selection is complemented by an ultra-slim stainless steel bracelet that gives the watch a modern, lightweight feel.

All straps feature a quick-release system, allowing you to change them in seconds without any tools.

Easy strap change without tools

Thanks to the quick-change system, you can give your timepiece a new look in just 10 seconds:

1 — Slide the pin of the spring bar inwards.

2 — Pull the strap off the watch.

3 — Put on a new strap by sliding the pin inwards again and inserting the spring bar one after the other into the holes in the case.

We are happy to check if your desired watch can be ordered with an alternative strap. Simply send an e-mail to support@sternglas.com and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

How long does the battery last?

The batteries we use typically last between 2-5 years. We recommend having a jeweler or watchmaker perform a battery replacement.
